Simply enough, this is a fanlisting for Ginko from the series Mushishi~
Original source: Mushishi @ Wikipedia
The story features ubiquitous creatures called Mushi that often display supernatural powers. Mushi are described as beings in touch with the essence of life, far more basic and pure than the grotesque creatures we are accustomed to. Due to their ephemeral nature most humans are incapable of perceiving Mushi and are oblivious to their existence, but there are a few who possess the ability to see and interact with Mushi. "Mushi" in the Japanese language actually mean "insect."
One such person is Ginko, the main character of the series. He employs himself as a Mushi master, travelling from place to place to research Mushi and aid people suffering from problems caused by them. The series is an episodic anthology in which the only common elements among episodes are Ginko and the various types of Mushi. There is no over-arching plotline.
As the fascinating main character of this series, Ginko is a traveling Mushishi (Mushi master or "bug master" in some translations), treating people he happens to meet with their Mushi-related ails, as said above. He has no real destination, only traveling to see the wonders that Mushi have created in the human world. His thirst for knowledge about the Mushi gives way to one reason why he is constantly travelling. Another reason is because he just happens to attract Mushi very well, and if he resides in one area for a lengthy period of time, a potentially dangerous amount of Mushi will accumulate.
The author gave no real connotation about why Ginko's modern clothes don't seem to match with the time period of the rest of the people in the series, but she wrote that if there was a time setting for the series, it would be set between the Edo and Meiji periods of Japan. His white hair and green eye color came from a childhood incident involving Mushi. Personality wise, Ginko is laid back and relaxed, acting calm during times of distress. At the same time, he does not have any hate towards the Mushi, rather he stresses that the Mushi are not evil, but merely trying to survive like everyone else.
Upon receiving the email of me being approved for the Ginko fanlisting, I was super excited, because not only is Mushishi SUCH an awesome series, I get to have the fanlisting for the main character of this grand series, and I must mention, Ginko ranks high up on my wishlist. <3 Now the next part was to come up with a layout that would match up with the picturesque and serenity of Ginko and the series...
I was pretty limited on what images I had available, but I decided to choose, from one of the very first pages of the manga, the particular image you see to the right of this. I think you can tell pretty much what kind of guy Ginko is just from his facial expression and his poise. Another note about this particular picture: just to add onto the green of this series, I also wanted to drag in the very first stories that Ginko was involved with: a boy with the hand of God, who upon drawing things onto paper, the images would come to life! That green bowl there is what the boy drew, and thus our adventure with Ginko starts...
Let me explain myself about the contents of the layout... the floaty stuff is SUPPOSE to be Mushi, but I guess it just looks like a bunch of blurry yellow stuff. T_T: And I tried to hand draw the swampy scene of the original manga image that the Ginko to the right was in, but... well, I'll let you judge it. ._.;
While making this layout, I was listening to Feather by Nujabes on repeat, not only because I really, REALLY liked the song, but because I found the lyrics of the song fitting to Ginko... thus you can see me squish in some of the lyrics in the title and layout of this fanlisting. =)
